Description:

A Louisiana Cherrywood and Cypress Armoire, early 19th c., the interior backboard penciled script "NO" and the month and day illegibly written in French, 1839. The cove molded projecting cornice above a pair of panelled doors opening to a series of shelves and a belt of drawers, on short cabriole legs, height 82 in., width 55.25in. depth 20 in., restorations. E6000/8000 Provenance: The armoire was previously part of the furnishings of the Austin French Legation Building in Republican, Texas. Later purchased by Martha Ann Ingerson, an Austin, Texas historic preservationist who gave it to Mrs. Helen Gilmartin of Grandbury, Texas in 1980. It is from the collection of Mr. John Gilmartin of Independence, Texas.
