Description:

A Louisiana Mahogany Armoire, late 18th/early 19th c., the molded cornice with chamfered corners above a plain frieze, paneled doors and scalloped skirt on cabriole legs, interior with original belt of three drawers, height 87 in., width 54 in., depth 20 in. Provenance: Mrs. Lucie Woodward Webb Renaud (New Orleans, 1851-1925), and by decent to present owners. Note: The understated cant of the cornice, the slight chamfer to the case corners, the wide plain frieze, molded paneled doors, the scalloped apron on the belt of drawers, and the delicate cabriole legs of this armoire clearly relate to those on a cherrywood armoire in the Houmas House collection which sold for $57,500 as lot 740 on May 18, 2003.
