Description:

A Louisiana Walnut Footstool, early 19th c., of diminutive proportions, with needlepoint seat on scalloped frame with cabriole legs, height 7 1/2 in., width 14 in., depth 9 in. Note: A Louisiana walnut stool with legs similar to those on lot 522 was sold in these rooms as lot 432 on April 3, 2004. The restrained cabriole leg, scalloped skirt and side returns on this stool are similarly incorporated along the bases of several Louisiana armoires. Reference: Louisiana case pieces with related skirt and legs include an armoire in the collection of Robert Judice illustrated in Poesch, "Furniture of the River Road Plantations in Louisiana," Magazine Antiques, June 1977, p. 1184, fig 1-1b.
