A Monumental American Late Classical Rosewood Wardrobe in the Gothic Taste, c. 1840, having a deeply flared, stepped cornice with applied moldings, paneled doors with Gothic arches, two long drawers, scalloped skirt, canted corners, paneled sides, and blocked feet, height 96 in., width 64 in., depth 28 in. Provenance: From the home in Fairfield County, South Carolina, occupied by four generations of the Kincaid-Anderson family from 1769-1900 The home was occupied by Sherman's troops in February of 1865, almost immediately after the destruction of Columbia, South CarolinA Neighboring homes were all burned, but the Kincaid-Anderson house was left standing. This wardrobe has been owned by descendants of Elizabeth Kincaid and Edward Anderson since that time.
