A Monumental Colonial Revival Mahogany Tall Case Clock in the Classical Taste, late 19th c., marked Caldwell & Co., England, the arched bonnet over an elaborate gilt and brushed steel moon phase dial with chronometer, lower glazed cabinet containing pendulum and tubes, flanked by tall Ionic colonettes on a blocked plinth, height 99 in., width 29 in., depth 18in E8000-12000 Provenance: Descended in the Perkowski family, operators of 'Mother's Pies' bakery, New Orleans. Note: Known as a retailer and maker of good quality case clocks beginning in the 1850's, the J.E Caldwell firm of Philadelphia often imported high quality movements from England, Germany and Switzerland for installation in clocks presented to the American market.
