A Monumental Neo-Grec Carved Rosewood, Gilt Incised and Inlaid Overmantel Mirror, c. 1870, New York, attributed to Herter Brothers, with a carved portrait bust crest, the frame with pilasters ending in geometric inlaid plinth bases, height 71in. E2500-3500 Note: The rear exhibits the frame and panel construction typical of the Herter Brothers firm. The inlay is related to that of several documented examples of this period, most notably that on a sofa made for Elm Park, the Legrand Lockwood residence, Norwalk, Connecticut, and a console with mirror made for Thurlow Lodge, the Milton Slocum Latham residence, Menlo Park, California.
