A New Orleans Vargas Family Waxworks Figure of a Mexican Gourd Carrier, c. 1880s, having a well-modeled, individual face, probably by Francisco Vargas, Sr., for the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition series depicting Mexican peasant life, bearing a rare paper label on bottom, reading "made by Francisco Vargas" along with a carved "V", height 11 1/2 in., diameter 5 in. Note: small loss to one hand.
