Description:

A Newcomb College Art Pottery High Glaze Mug, c. 1902-1904, decorated by Olive Webster Dodd, painted with a band of girls in traditional Dutch dress holding hands above the text "Fill Full - Here Sorrow Cannot Reach Amidst Bright Eyes and Faces", blue and green underglaze, base marked with Newcomb cipher, decorator's mark, Joseph Meyer's potter's mark, and "Q" for buff clay body, height 4 1/4 in., width 4 1/2 in.

    Notes:
  • Note: Olive Webster Dodd began her education at Newcomb in 1898, enrolling as a special Art student. She matriculated into the Normal Art program in 1899 graduating with her degree the following year. She spent one year as a graduate student in 1902-1903, becoming a Pottery Designer in 1903-1904
