Lot 396
Description:
A Newcomb College Art Pottery High Glaze Mug, 1905, decorated by Marie de Hoa LeBlanc with an incised motif of masks in blue, green, and yellow, partial old reg. no. paper label, the base marked with Newcomb cipher, decorator¹s mark, Joseph Meyer¹s potter¹s mark, "Q" for buff clay body, and reg. no. AO29, height 5 1/2 in.
-
Notes:
- Note: The unusual mask motif displayed on the present lot is likely an "homage" to Halloween or Mardi Gras. Newcomb College¹s semester commenced each year in October, which perhaps encouraged this incorporation of festive symbols.
