Ellsworth Woodward passionately described the scene in a 1938 speech entitled The Magic of New Orleans as follows: "When ...[one sees for the first time the unbelievably fantastic oak swathed in its mournful burden, ... and when he beholds the full moon rise behind that feathery scene, then indeed his cup is full."
