Description:

A Pair of American Classical Figured Mahogany Games Tables, early 19th c., attributed to John Needles, Baltimore, each fold-over top with reeded edge, flame veneered frieze, bulbous ring-turned stem, reeded saber legs ending in brass acanthus caps, casters, height 29 1/2 in., width 37 3/4 in., depth 19 in.

  • Notes: Note: A work table labeled by Needles held by the Maryland Historical Society with a base very similar to those in this lot is illustrated in Weidman, Classical America, 1815-1845, p. 115, fig 140. Moreover, the turned stems on these tables are similar to several tables labeled by Needles and recorded in the Winterthur Museum Photographic Collection, including a center table (DAPC acc. 74.6176) and a work table (DAPC Roll 48-762-306).
