Lot 462
Description:
A Pair of American Gilt Bronze-Mounted Ebonized Torchères, circular tops, tapered fluted anthemion-mounted stems issuing arched, scrolled tapered legs with owl head mounts ending in ball and claw feet, in fine original condition, height 50 1/2 in., top diameter 8 in.
- Notes: Note: The finely cast bird-figure mounts on this pair of torchères are an aesthetic motif used by a number of New York makers. Kimbel and Cabus use a large owl as the finial for a bookmill pictured in their c. 1875 catalogue. In 1886 P.E. Guerin patented a well-known floor lamp using a parrot "term" standard, the body of the bird continuing to a single oversized leg and foot, as those on this lot.
