A Pair of Chinese Mother-of-Pearl and Carved Ivory Covered "Quail" Boxes, Qing Dynasty, probably 19th c., each naturalistically carved as a seated quail partially encircled at the base by a millet spray, the covers and bases perfectly fitted along a scalloped edge, delicately incised mother-of-pearl feathering, incised ivory beaks, feet and millet sprays, domed interiors with quadrilobe apertures, height 3 3/8 in., length 4 3/4 in.
