A Pair of English or American Mahogany "Thebes" Stools, early 20th Century after the antique, the original model in the British Museum and copied by Liberty, height 131/2 in., width 14 in., depth 111/2 in. E700-900 Note: A ceremonial stool of this form was discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamen in 1923, and is currently conserved by the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. This ancient stool served as a model for cabinetmakers of fashion in the early 20th c. A near identical mahogany "Thebes Stool" attributed to Liberty & Co. is in the Collection of the Nordenfjeldske Art and Industrial Museum in Trondheim, Norway.
