A Pair of French or American Innovative Spring Steel Garden Chairs, early 20th c., outswept barrel backs, circular seats with radials, paired rod legs, button feet, height 34 in. Note: Chairs with circular spring steel seats similar to those here were patented in the United States by French designer Francois A. Carre in 1866 and produced by a number of makers including the Fonderies du Val d'Osne, Paris, Lalance & Grosjean, New York, and Schlesinger, Wiessner & Co. of New York and Vienna. Reference: Hanks.
