A Pair of Meissen Porcelain Polychrome and Gilt-Decorated Campagna Urns, mid-19th c., attributed to Carl August Müller, painted in the "Majolica" style, each with flared lip, scroll handles, jeweled collar over spreading foot; one with scenes of "Hades Abducting Persephone" and "Demeter Searching for Persephone", the other with "The Toilet of Aphrodite" and "Orpheus and Eurydice", each with underglaze blue crossed swords and incised "V34." and stamped "8", height 10 1/2 in. | Note: Restoration.

  • Notes: Note: A vase of similar form, and with a painted scene of Classical imagery, is illustrated in the Art Journal Catalogue for London International Exhibition of 1862, p. 87 A larger vase painted by Carl August Muller of the same design and with decorative elements depicting the "Toilet of Aphrodite" was offered at Sotheby's London, June 5, 2007, as lot 86 Carl August Muller was one of the leading artists at the Meissen factory from 1855 to 1870.
