Description:

A Pair of Regency Mahogany Bergères, early 19th c., attributed to Gillows of London and Lancaster, each with an upholstered back, the molded scrolled arms above a tablet-carved seat rail fitted with a loose cushion, on bold horizontal reeded legs ending in brass casters.

  • Notes: Note: These are related to those seen in watercolors of an early 19th c. drawing room elevation from the Gillows firm, now conserved by the Victoria and Albert Museum (E.47-1952); and are similar to those supplied to William Powlett, 2nd Baron Bolton (d. 1850), for Hackwood Park, Hampshire (Christie's, April 20, 1998, lot 55).
