Description:

A Parian Figure of Massachusetts Governor John A. Andrews, mid-19th c., after Martin Milmore (American, 1844-1883), incised "M. Milmore Sculpt" and "Published by J.McD. & S. Boston Copyright" en verso, with Andrew's quote "I know not what record of sin awaits me in the other world, but this I know, that I was never mean enough to despise any man because he was ignorant, because he was poor, or because he was black.", height 21 1/4 in.
Note: Abolitionist John A. Andrew, (1818-1867), won the favor of the people of Massachusetts as a participant in the organization of legal aid for John Brown. This led to his victory, by huge margins, as the 25th Governor of the Commonwealth in 1860.
