A Portuguese Silver Wickerwork Flask, by Leitao & Irmao, late 19th c., marked with French import marks on stopper (after 1893) and Leitao & IR. / 1 Titulo on neck, the ovoid body with conical lid, loop handles, glass liner, height 7 3/4 in., width 4 1/4 in., depth 3 1/2 in.

  • Notes: Note: The Leitao & Irmao firm dates to late 18th c. Oporto, where it began as Casa Leitao. Noted for its workmanship, Leitao & Irmao was granted the title Goldsmiths of the Imperial House of Brazil in 1873, and Jewelers to the Portuguese Crown in 1877 Their hallmark is one of the oldest in the world still in use.
