A Rare American Aesthetic Carved and Figured Satinwood Octagonal Partner's Desk, c. 1880, attributed to A.H. Davenport, the finely figured case containing opposite kneehole recesses and an alternating arrangement of cased drawers having original brass knobs and cut backplates, and paneled cupboards; the whole raised on stylized claw and ball feet, height 30 in., length 54 in. E7500/10000 Note: A.H. Davenport and Company (1875-1910) had its primary business in Boston but also maintained a branch office in New York City. Davenport was closely associated with many prestigious architectural concerns including Henry Hobson Richardson and McKim, Mead and White. A.H. Davenport was one of the few firms in America that could supply the quantity of luxury furniture and interior decorations to meet the needs of the late 19th century's sumptuous public and private buildings.
