A Rare American Classical Mahogany Bookcase, Anthony Jenkins, Baltimore, active 1835-1840, signed "A & H Jenkins" the rectangular cornice and plain frieze above a pair of doors decorated with elaborate carved mullions of Greek honeysuckle radiating from a central rosette and over three drawers; the lower section having a geometric faced frieze drawer containing a writing board and various divided compartments, on Ionic columnar supports resting on blocks raised on acanthine and reeded melon turned feet, height 87in. width 46in. depth 24in. E12000-18000 Note: The overall form and distinctive carved decoration of the glazed upper section in this example are exemplary of those favored by Baltimore cabinetmakers during the Classical period.
