A Rare American Classical Mahogany Miniature Bed, c. 1830, New York, school of Duncan Phyfe, scrolled head and footboard, molded rail, distinctive molded scrolled bracket feet, height 18 in., width 45 in., depth 17 1/2 in.

  • Notes: Note: Duncan Phyfe is known to have made small-scale furniture pieces as gifts to his many grandchildren after his retirement in 1847 A small mahogany dresser in the Late Classical manner from the collection of Percy Vail is illustrated in McClelland. Duncan Phyfe and the English Regency. p.125, pl. 108 The use of raised banding on the rails and the outswept molding on the feet of this bed are refined details indicative of the Phyfe workshop.
