A Rare American Eastlake Carved and Incised Walnut Chest of Drawers, c. 1875, New York, four drawers flanked by shaped outset stiles, vine-carved skirt, height 38 in., width 49 1/4 in., depth 22 3/8 in. Note : Charles Eastlake's design for this chest appears in his 1876 opus, Hints on Household Taste. Eastlake's prescription for moldings to lend a ""picturesque character"", sides that project beyond the drawer faces, usage of ring pulls, and drawers no deeper than six inches, are all Eastlake elements fulfilled in this example.
