A Rare American Giltwood and Onyx Gueridon in the Louis XVI Taste, late 19th c., with a paper label "From R.J. Horner & Co. Furniture Makers and Importers, 61, 63, and 65 West 23rd St., New York City", the rectangular inset top within a beaded frame, the stiff leaf frieze raised on onyx and fluted giltwood legs headed by paterae, the incurvate stretchers centered by a rosette, height 30 in., width 26. 5in., depth 21 in. E1500/2500 Note: This label shows one of the earliest documented addresses for Horner. A Philadelphia Carpet Trade's notice of May 1, 1887 describes Horner's store as "Everything from the colonial-primitive to the renaissance can be found here, and whole suites of rooms are partitioned off in one of the lofts and arranged complete with carpets, wall-paper, draperies and furniture in a manner to show off the properties of bedroom, parlor, dining hall and billiard room furnishings."
