Note: Likewise, it was at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle that American accomplishments in engineering, design, education, publishing, and public libraries were impressed on the European public through vast exhibits from over 2000 American institutions and manufacturers.
This table, manufactured in Philadelphia, was clearly used by a major exhibitor in both Philadelphia and Paris. The inset leather top and massive work surface was likely in use for viewing manuscripts, documents and books.
