A Rare English or American Gothic Revival Bronze and Gilt Brass Lighting Stand, c 1830, composed of four clustered columns in the Tuscan order, supported by a pedestal faced with four cusped arches above a Gothic niche, on a stepped base, height 37 in (26.5in of original height to top of shaft), width 6.5in., depth 6.5in E3500-4500 Note: Design drawings for several such cast-metal lighting fixtures, some gilded, from as early as c 1810, are in the Victoria and Albert Museum; while an example similar to this, with an identical column- cluster shaft, of the 1830's/1840's, is in a private collection: see Gerald T Gowit, 19th Century Elegant Lighting, 2002, pp 208-209, 210.
