A Rare English or American Gothic Revival Bronze and Gilt Brass Lighting Standard, c. 1830, composed of four clustered columns in the Tuscan order, supported by a pedestal faced with four cusped arches above a Gothic niche, on a stepped base, height 37 in. (26 1/2 in. of original height to top of shaft), width 6 1/2 in., depth 6 1/2 in. Note: Design drawings for several such cast-metal lighting fixtures, some gilded, from as early as c. 1810, are in the Victoria and Albert Museum; while an example similar to this, with an identical column-cluster shaft, of the 1830's/1840 's, is in a private collection: see Gerald T. Gowit, 19th Century Elegant Lighting, 2002, pp. 208-209, 210.
