A Rare Limoges Porcelain Dinner Plate from the White House Service of President Rutherford B. Hayes, c. 1880, Haviland & Co., designed by artist Theodore Russell Davis, in the "Floating for Deer" design, showing a small boat with candle lantern and a Virginia buck with substantial rack of antlers standing downstream, the Presidential Eagle en verso holding the olive sprig and cluster of arrows in its talons, diameter 10 1/8 in. E1500-2500 Note: The candle lantern shown here was called a "jack" and was usually placed in the bows of the boat in order to make the hunters invisible to their prey.
