A Rare Louis XVI Mulberry Music Bench, late 18th c., Garde-Meuble inventory stamps, molded seat frame joining the eight baluster-turnedlegs connected by molded stretcher, ending in ball feet, height 20 in, length 83 in., depth 17 in. E9000/12000 Note: Multiple stamps are asfollows -one "TH". "IM 129", "GM356" and three fleur-de-lis beneath a crown within an oval and the letters "TH" underneath. The latter of these stamps is recorded at Christie's sale of Palais de Tuilleries furnishings from the collections of Edward James, London. The Palais de Tuilleries was begun by Catherine de Medici in 1594 near the Louvre It was principally used by officials of the court after Louis XV leftit in 1722, though Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette resided there after their forced return from Versailles in 1789 until 1792. Some new furniture was supplied in 1790, though most pieces were brought from other chateaux. The Tuilleries was used as the principal palace for the multiple nineteenth century rulers of France until it was almost entirely destroyed by fire in 1871. What remained was incorporated into the Louvre.
