A Rare Louisiana Cherrywood and Cypress Armoire, signed and dated "M. Gremellion, September 1824", the molded cornice above a pair of paneled doors, the interior with a belt of drawers, shaped apron, cabriole legs, height 72 7/8 in., width 51 3/8 in., depth 19 1/2 in.

  • Provenance: Provenance: Found in Lafayette, Louisiana many years ago; acquired from noted Louisiana antiquarian W.E. Groves, c. 1973.
  • Notes: Note: The proportions, paneled doors and distinctive apron on this armoire relate to those on a walnut and cypress armoire signed by Celestin Glapion, a free man of color with a cabinet shop at 178 St. Ann Street, New Orleans in 1838.
