Description:

A Rare Louisiana Mahogany Petite Armoire, early 19th c., original cornice and escutcheons, scalloped apron, cabriole legs, height 54 1/2 in., width 43 in., depth 15 1/2 in. E15000-25000 Notes: The usage of a complex cornice molding together with the reeded door stile, the delicately chamfered sides and the distinctive scrollwork apron in this armoire all point to a cabinetmaker working within traditional French design sources. An armoire for the Ursuline Convent with elements similar to those seen in this example is illustrated in Jessie Poesch, Early Furniture of Louisiana, Louisiana State Museum, p. 41, pl. 9.
