A Rare Newcomb College Art Pottery Teaset, 1912, consisting of a lidded teapot, lidded sugar, creamer, and a saucer, the teapot, sugar and creamer modeled with gardenia leaves and blossoms, the saucer having a banded rim with a spray of leaves, matte glaze with blue and green underglaze, all decorated by Louise Ayars, each piece marked with the Newcomb cipher, registration number FG86, Ayars' decorator's mark, three with Joseph Meyer's potter's mark, teapot height 4.5in., width 7.5in., saucer diameter 5.5in. E5000/7500 Provenance: Descended in the family of the decorator, Louise Ayars Stevenson, a founder of the River Oaks Garden Club in Houston.
