A Rare Pair of American Art Furniture Mahogany Sidechairs, late 19th c., one rear seat rail stamped Wm White, Boston, the other stamped White, the design antecedents are taken from Lancashire chairs, each incorporating turned stiles and splats, the rodded slat centered by oblong lozenges, the woven rush seat raised on ring-turned legs joined by stretchers, ending in elongated spherule feet. E600/900 Note: William White is listed in the Boston City Directories as a chair maker at 885 Washington St. from 1857-1903, the heart of Boston cabinet making trade.
