Description:

A Rare Pair of American Rococo Tiger Maple and Rosewood Commodes, mid-19th c., New York, labeled "from A. Roux French Cabinetmaker Nos. 479 & 481 Broadway New York", the original marble tops with molded edge above paneled drawer and cupboard, blocked molded bases, in a fine state of preservation, height 30 in., width 26 in., depth 19 in. Note: Alexander Roux approached Classical design with the eye of a Parisian ebeniste informed of the high style of the Louis Philippe period. Rather than a broad interpretation of the style, Roux produced examples of refined restraint.
