A Rare Pair of American White and Gilt-Lustre Pitchers, c. 1840s, in glazed vitreous earthenware of bulbous octagonal shape, with high arched spouts and pointed D-form handles, with prominent two-part mold seams beneath spouts and handles, unmarked, but closely related in shape and decoration to a pitcher of c. 1843 by the American Pottery Co., Jersey City, NJ, height 8 in., width 7.5in., depth 9.5in Note: A pitcher identical in shape but with a variation of spout and decorated with the Landing of Lafayette in New York, now at The Newark Museum, is illustrated in Berry Tracy's Classical America, 1815-1845, Newark, New Jersey, 1963.
