A Rare War of 1812 Commemorative Kerchief, c. 1815, copper-engraved cotton, memorializing the naval victories of the War of 1812, with vignettes of the Battles of Lakes Erie and Champlain and others, and the signing of the peace at Ghent, decorated with eagle armorials, portraits, laurel leaves, ropes and banners, 25 1/2 in. x 29 in., framed. Provenance: Estate of James Fenimore Cooper IV Note: The only other known example is conserved at the New York Historical Society, inv. 1943-442.
