Lot 534
A Set of Eight American Carved Walnut Dining Chairs, mid-19th Century attributed to Alexander Roux, Philadelphia, the crest a cartouche flanked by dolphins over a square back, upholstered seat, carved seat rail and turned legs ending in casters. E6000-8000 Note: The strapwork cartouche on the crest of these chairs is nearly identical to those on a suite of dining chairs that are part of a labeled dining room suite by Alexander Roux in the Service Collection and illustrated in Eileen and Richard Dubrow, American Furniture of the 19th Century, p. 162. While the Service Collection chairs have birds flanking the cartouche, this suite uses dolphins on the crest.
