Description:
A Sierra Leone Carved Stone Head and Figural Group, the tall circular base comprised of nine figures supporting a life-sized upturned head featuring bulbous bulging eyes, a broad nose with flared nostrils, and full open lips revealing clenched filed teeth, the hair and beard rendered in stylized notched plaits spiraling around the top of the head and down the figure's neck, height 13 3/4 in., width 9 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Provenance: Acquired by William W. Hodges of Kokomo, IN, mid-1960s, while developing teacher training schools at the University of Njala, Sierra Leone.
