Description:

A Sierra Leone Carved Stone Head, Mahen Yafe, supported by a thin cylindrical neck, the slightly upturned life-sized head with deeply cut domed eyes, a broad curved nose, full open lips revealing clenched filed teeth, and C-shaped ears beneath an intricate notched coiffure, height 9 in., width 10 in., mounted to a hexagonal wood plinth, overall height 11 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Provenance: Acquired by William W. Hodges of Kokomo, IN, mid-1960s, while developing teacher training schools at the University of Njala, Sierra Leone.
