A Sierra Leone Carved Stone Nomoli or Pomdo Figure, the male figure carved standing on a mounded intrinsic base with a stylized snake winding around his waist, backside and shoulders terminating on one side of his head, his large head featuring bulbous eyes, a broad nose, and large puckered lips, surmounted by a stylized bird figure, height 13 in., mounted to a square wood plinth, overall height 15 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Provenance: Acquired by William W. Hodges of Kokomo, IN, mid-1960s, while developing teacher training schools at the University of Njala, Sierra Leone.
