A Sierra Leone Carved Stone Nomoli or Pomdo Figure, the male figure carved squatting with his elbows resting on upturned knees, his extended hands grasping two plaits of his long beard, the face featuring bulbous eyes, a broad nose and full lips, height 11 1/2 in., mounted to a wood plinth, overall height 13 1/2 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Provenance: Acquired by William W. Hodges of Kokomo, IN, mid-1960s, while developing teacher training schools at the University of Njala, Sierra Leone.
