Description:
A Signed Jansen Crème Peinte Hanging Vitrine in the Louis XVI Taste, 20th c., fluted cornice with rosette panel, chamfered corners with pendant flowers, glass doors and shelves, molded base, velvet-lined interior, height 38 in., width 57 1/2 in., depth 7 in.
- Notes: Note: Maison Jansen was the 20th century's most influential revivalist decorating house, with commissions including those from President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy for the White House, the palaces of the Shah and Shahbanou of Iran, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor's Bois de Boulogne apartment in Paris. Founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen, the firm expanded by word of mouth referrals from important clients to include international offices in Paris, New York and Buenos Aires by 1945 Jansen employed over seven hundred ebenistes, painters, gilders and upholsterers in its rue Saint-Sabin ateliers in Paris and worked from period examples to produce a finely executed "Bourbon historicism" such as that seen in the French design of his vitrine being offered. The ateliers were sold in 1979 Reference: James Archer Abbott. Jansen Furniture, pp. 15-20
