A Southern Cherrywood Pier Table, attributed to Thomas Day (North Carolina, 1801-1861), the solid cherry top with a torus molded apron supported by two scrolled legs before a back of panel construction on a figured concave plinth atop curled feet, heigth 35in. width 37in. depth 20in. E9000-12000 Note: Cabinetmaker Thomas Day (1801-1861) was a free man of color working in the town of Milton in Caswell County, North Carolina. Beginning in the 1820's, Day's business grew into one of the areas largest by 1850. Day's pieces are known for a mixture of Classical elements and African motifs combined with expert veneer work The scrolled supports in this example are stylized and elongated in such a distinctive manner.
