A Staffordshire Figure of Shakespeare, possibly c. 1850s-1860s, modeled on his tomb sculpture in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey, finely painted and gilded, the base inscribed 'Shakspeare' in raised capitals, height 10 in. Note: See John Hall, Staffordshire Portrait Figures, New York, 1972, p. 48, for similar types. Provenance: From the estate of noted New Orleans antiquarian Juanita Elfert.
