A Suku Carved and Painted Wood Helmut Mask, Zaire, the bulbous hollowed head carved with distinct inset facial features, surmounted by a figure of an anteater with glass eyes, retains raffia collar, approx. height 23 in., suspended on a standard plinth.
- Provenance: Provenance: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Note: Suku helmet masks are used to promote success in the hunt, to heal, and to punish criminals. They are also worn by dancers during initiation ceremonies.
