Sterling Silver and Vermeil Serving Spoon, in the 17th century Dutch taste, custom-designed pattern 625, 1894-1895; elliptical gilt washed bowl with elongated rat tail, flat stem with cast running foliage, shield-shaped terminal with cast figures, length 9 7/8 in Note: After the Centennial Exposition of 1876 created a demand for colonial-style objects, Tiffany & Co. began to manufacture silver in the "Old English" taste. Charles Venable notes that "Ten years later Tiffany's was even making silver in the seventeenth-century Dutch taste, in keeping with the colonial history of New York."
