A Very Fine American Classical Carved Mahogany Work Table, early 19th c., New York, rectangular case with canted corners, fitted with two graduated drawers and escritoire drawer to the side, turned stem, outswept acanthine legs, paw feet, casters, height 29 1/2 in., width 22 1/2 in., depth 16 3/4 in.
Note: The highly articulated carving on the legs and feet of this table is closely related to examples associated with the workshop of Duncan Phyfe, including a work table at the Hagley Museum, Wilmington; a Klismos chair owned by Berry Tracy now in the Froelich collection; and a games table recorded at Winterthur (1964).
