A Very Rare Faux Bois Cypress and Pine Cabinet, c 1830-50, Louisiana (probably made at Houmas Plantation), the flared cornice above a plain frieze, pair of paneled doors, arched bracket base; the whole retaining original paint decoration of rouge, yellow, ochre and rich brown; with a shelved interior, height 84 in., width 67 in., depth 22 1/2 in E3000-5000 Note: The backboards bearing old black ink inscription, 'Houmas Plantat(ion) This side up.. with care...Preston.' Note: John Smith Preston and his wife Caroline, built the Greek Revival Manse known today as Houmas House Caroline was the daughter of the American Revolution hero, General Wade Hampton This painted cabinet is the only known example of its form remaining in situ along the River Road
