A William IV Brass and Mahogany Firescreen, c 1840, on acanthus and melon-lobed stem, and an incurvate triangular base with sphinx feet supporting a painted landscape on copper of 'A Figure Admiring a Mountain Waterfall', in the manner of Alexandre Calame E500-750 Note: Alexandre Calame, born at Vevey, Switzerland in 1810, exhibited 'A Forest Scene' at Hamburg in 1837, and his 'Waterfall at Handeck' was considered one of the masterpieces of the Paris Salon of 1839 His paintings are in museums at Basle, Berlin, Berne, Frankfurt, Geneva, London and Neuchatel He died in Mentone in 1864 Provenance: Collection of Gretchen and Alonzo Lansford
