A Yoruba Carved Wood Figural Group and an Asante (Ashanti) Carved Wood Figure, the Yoruba group, Nigeria, carved as a kneeling figure caressing a large lidded bowl in the form of a chicken with a smaller figure beneath, paint decoration throughout; the Asante male figure, Ghana, carved standing square and clasping his outstretched hands before his chest, height 22 3/4 in. and 12 1/4 in. respectively. Note: Asante figure condition.

Note: The Yoruba example offered here is probably a shrine figure commissioned as an offering of thanks to a god for a personal favor or service rendered.
